| ‘2008 Election is not a two-horse race’ |
| Sat, Nov 22nd 2008 |
|
Convention People’s Party campaign strategist, Mr David Ampofo, has declared that the 2008 general election is not a two-horse race between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
However, he said the choice is simple: the NDC/NPP on one hand and the CPP on the other hand, he pointed out. He was emphatic that the CPP has become vibrant and is poised to cause a major upset on December 7.
Mr Ampofo made the declaration when he accompanied the CPP flag bearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, party stalwarts and regional executive members on a campaign tour in the Assin Fosu constituency in the Central region, to garner more votes.
In the opinion of the CPP campaign strategist, Ghana does not belong to the NDC and the NPP as being played out by the two political parties in this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections. He went on to state that for that reason there is the need for Ghanaians to vote for the CPP for a total transformation of the country’s economy.
Taking a swipe at the ruling NPP government, Mr Ampofo disputed their claim that they have achieved so much for this country. He explained that the reality on the ground is that majority of Ghana ’s population are still languishing in naked poverty with its adverse effects on societies.
In this vein, he appealed to the people in Assin Fosu to ensure that they vote massively for the CPP for change. He also asked them not to be deceived by the other parties that Ghana needs many years before she can develop. He said there are many countries which took them fewer years to develop their economy and, therefore, Ghana can do same.
Mr Osei Tandoh, the CPP regional organizer, disclosed that the NPP has no message for the electorate. He said this explains why members of the party are going round bribing the electorate and their political opponents with money between 500 and 1000 Ghana cedis. He warned the people against these things and urge them to take their future into consideration, and vote for the CPP to form the next government.
For his part, Dr Nduom took the opportunity to introduce the CPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Mr Roland Takyi, and appealed to the crowd to support him to go to parliament. He intimated that the constituency needs somebody who is vocal, intelligent and would work diligently to bring development to the people. That person, he disclosed was Mr Roland Takyi.
According to him, if they want to remain in perpetual poverty then they should either vote for the NDC or the NPP. But, he entreated them to rally behind the CPP, which he stressed is the only political party in the election race that can improve the lives of the good people in this country.
The CPP flag bearer made it clear that, his administration will ensure that young men and women in this country get jobs by reviving all the defunct state-owned enterprises and building new ones across the length and breadth of the country.
Continuing, he called on the gathering to vote for the CPP to ensure that peace reigns in Ghana , stressing that, members of his party have always demonstrated a high sense of maturity when it comes to political tolerance.
Dr Nduom and his entourage also took the opportunity to visit the Bamboo factory in the town to see how a CPP administration can do to expand their operations and keep the industry flourishing. They were conducted around by the manageress, Ms Deladem Agboloso Mensah.
Among some of the facilities the team familiarized themselves with were the sanding machine, the spreader machine, the glue machine, the boiling and the hot spreading machines.
Impressed by the operations at the factory, Dr Nduom reiterated his resolve to ensuring that local Ghanaian businesses are given the push to enable them grow and have money in their pockets to live meaningful lives. |
