| CPP canvasses for votes in Eastern Region |

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has rounded up its final lap of campaign in the Eastern region with a rally at New Abirem.
The party’s flag bearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, was accorded a warm reception by many of the residents who shouted and did the yeresasamu sign, whilst others in their enthusiasm rushed to shake hands with him.
Not showing any sign of weariness, the CPP flag bearer walked briskly to the market centre to greet and shake hands with the sellers. In fact, many of the women stood in awe to watch him as others could not help it but to cheer him.
Addressing the ecstatic crowd at the rally grounds, Dr Nduom asserted that this year change would come through the CPP. He said this is in respect of the fact that Ghanaians all over the country are sick and tired of the contious lies of parties which failed to deliver on their promises. He entreated them to rally behind the CPP for victory in the up coming presidential and parliamentary polls.
He also disabused their minds from the notion that the CPP is an ageing political party and has nothing to offer this country.
For his part, the CPP parliamentary candidate for New Abirem, Mr Kwadwo Asante, bemoaned the fact that there was too much politicking in the district. He advised the people against the influence of petty items like salt and second hand clothing by some political parties in an attempt to buy votes.
He disclosed that come December 7, the second independence will be born, arguing out that the time has come for the youth to take over and contribute their bid for the development of Ghana. He was confident that he will win the seat and called on the people to vote for him and the party.
Later Dr Nduom paid a courtesy call on the chief of the town, Nana Amoh Kyeretwie I, where he thanked him for the warm reception and pledged to ensure that there is peace before, during and after the elections.
Earlier, the campaign team had toured Abetifi, Adawso and Nkawkaw to encourage party members to work hard to ensure victory for the party in the December ballot. At Abetifi, Dr Nduom after introducing the parliamentary candidate for the area, Mrs Olivia Addo, charged the party faithful to go all out and gamer more votes. He underscored that the campaign has reached a stage where nothing should be left to chance.
He assured them that the party has organised itself well and will win more of the votes across the country. He also attributed this to the fact that the CPP has this time around fielded energetic, intelligent and hard-working parliamentary candidates.
For her part, Mrs Addo advised the people in the constituency irrespective of their party affiliation to support her to become the Member of Parliament (MP). She said even though many of the MPs in the area have been men, they have all failed to address the myriad of problems confronting the constituency. She promised that when she is voted to power she will see to it that the needs of the constituents are addressed.
At Adawso in the Akropong Akuapim constituency, the parliamentary candidate, Mr Augustus Osae Akonnor, was optimistic that the people will overwhelmingly vote for him and the CPP. He said a CPP-led administration will create more jobs to ensure that the youth have work to do.
Dr Nduom assured them that as the political party that gained independence for the country, the CPP will not do things that will disturb the peace of this nation. He said that a vote for the CPP will ensure lasting peace in the country.
He said that his administration will revive old factories and build new ones to offer employment to the teeming unemployed youth in the country.
From Adawso, the CPP presidential candidate visited the Nkawkaw central market. Dr Nduom’s surprise visit at the market drew a large crowd as many surged forward to either shake hands or catch a glimpse of him. This however created both human and vehicular traffic as the entire place was thrown into wild jubilation. Some of the sellers who could not hide their admiration for the CPP flag bearer followed him joyously, amidst dancing and shouting of the yeresasamu sign. |
